A few years ago I won a trip to London.

I have a great love of Pinot Noir and a mate suggested I take a week and explore Burgundy while I was in the UK.

With Robert Hill Smith’s introductions through his wine distribution company Negociants, I had the most amazing week.

Including having the French regional wine classification system explained to me by Olivia Leflaive. Standing on a cross road near the village of Puligny-Montrachet one afternoon he point to three vineyards all next to each other, that one’s a Grand Cru, that one’s Premier Cru and that’s Village :

Later that day we tasted the three wines from the same three crossroads vineyards and they were all different.

I enjoyed it so much, I went back a few years later.
